FOOD PORN in MANILA

Have you ever travelled in one country wondering where to go, what to do and ESPECIALLY WHERE TO EAT?

I am a lover of food and I can skip shopping in a heartbeat but I cannot skip eating good food. Although I promote healthy eating and lifestyle among my family and friends, I also enjoy living and experiencing life to the fullest where I can taste different types of foods from around the globe but in moderation so I don't gain the  extra bulge. (Serious Fresh Juice Detox right after pigging out)

But I want to start my food experience in my home country, the Philippines especially in the main city Manila where a lot of my so called "colleagues" usually comes and asks me the basic question all the time where is a good place to eat Jen?

That is why I have committed my vacation here in Manila finding good places to eat and drink that will give you that "WOW" experience like no other and that "love at first bite" kind of unique experience that you won't find anywhere around the world.

I love rating restaurants that I go to especially their food, drinks and customer service. If I love it I say "WOW" I will definitely come back. If my rating are just "ok" "normal" "ordinary" average/mediocrity "expected" then there is nothing special about it.

Hope you bear with me in my journey to find the good places to eat around the world starting off in Manila my home.

Hungry Hound - Gastro pub

Once I landed in Manila, the first thing that comes to mind is trying out this hungry hound Gastro pub by erwan heussaff. For some of you who doesn't know him, he is a French Filipino whom I admire because of his passion for food, cooking and blogging all about it. Whenever I read his write ups and articles about the latest recipes he shares in his blog site TheFatkidinside.com I get inspired and wonder how it taste like. He recently announced that he has a restaurant in the fort which are Premio, hungry hound and niner Icci nana which is a craft cocktail bar.

I tried the hungry hound for the reason that I got intrigued by his "duck fat fries". What is that? How is that made? I must try it. Something unique, so I tagged my family along.

Food was just "ok". I ordered oyster burger which is one of their popular dish. Duck fat fries, salad, schueblig corn dog, fish and chips, chicken breast and crab meat.

I liked the crab meat for appetizer and the oyster burger because it was tastier and something unique for me compared to the others.

The rest are just "ordinary" on the palate (yes and that includes the duck fat fries that the restaurant was raving about) and find the foods really bland.

Budget: 500-800pesos per person

Niner Ichi Nana

This bar gave me a "wow" experience. It is the only bar in the Philippines that infuses fresh fruit plus fresh egg white (to make it more frothy) in their alcoholic beverages and they really mix freshly squeezed fruit juices in the cocktail.

The "baristas" are really friendly and you might meet Erwan Heussaff (The Owner of the bar) yourself making your cocktail as he comes by and helps the baristas make the drinks.

My personal favorite is "Coco Jam" drink which contains Hennesy vs coconut, lemon juice, syrup and pineapple juice.

A lot of drinks to try and for sure I will keep coming back to this place and will bring friends with me along the way.

Budget: 500-1500 pesos per drink/person (depending on how much you drink)

LUSSO- French/european cuisine

Lusso is now a personal favorite. It is located in greenbelt 5 just beside Balenciaga. The restaurant is just small but elegant. Place is quite formal because the waiters are quite formal as well (haha) wearing those Bow ties and white suit that any small mistake on chocolate will show off a big stain in their uniform.

I love the Egg concotte with foie gras and portobello (love this my personal favorite) plus Niçoise salad as appetizer. Wow food.

For main course the spinach tagliatelle and foie gras with salad. Beautiful and has that "wow" taste. (I will keep coming back to this place)

For dessert I love spuma al cioccolato paired with americano coffee because the chocolate is very velvety, mildly sweet perfect with my coffee but next time I come back, I will definitely try their lavender pannacotta which ran out just when I was about to order it.

I love my food experience at Lusso. It is Quality vs Quantity. If you prefer to have quality food go for Lusso, if Quantity is what your looking for then go for buffet. Definitely worth the try. For awesome cocktails head down to Niner Ichi Nana (located at the Fort, Globe tower) you will definitely love the place and the crowd.

Till my next food trip here in Manila
